A friend of mine went to Wal-Mart to have here picture developed. OK, bad idea in the first place, but still… When she wanted to pay, the cashier told her: “We cannot reproduce pictures taken by a pro photographer. We have analyzed your photos, and you did not take them.” The girl wanted to be paid, but without giving the prints! After some arguments (that was of course out of question to pay without getting the prints), my friend decided to leave. Bad idea. Cashier called security, and now my friend has two big boys around her. - “Girl, you have to pay, but you will not have your prints” In all, she loses an hour and a half at Wal-Mart, trying to make her point. How she was able to get out of this mess? She had to call one of the girl in the pictures, make her go to her house to grab the camera which still have the memory card with the pictures in it. It is only by showing the pictures in the camera that she was able to leave. |

Have your friend write a letter to Walmart... I will help ensure that this goes around to the photography community I run and several others mike iPhotoForum.com Re: Wal-Mart thinks their customers can't take pictures properly / Wal-Mart pense que tous ses clients sont des mauvais photographes

Wal-mart is probably facing problems with people who ask prints from professional pictures for which they don't own the rights. Most labs simply ask us to declare that we have the rights to print those pictures. But preventing her from exiting the store while she didn't even steal anything, it simply is sequestration. I'd have called the police. I had a similar problem while trying to exit a Six Flags park: they didn't want to let me out before 1:00pm. I told them I'd call the cops and they let me out, promising I wouldn't get back in the same day. Had the same thing happen to me today. My brother in law is dying in England and I live in Florida. So I went through my pictures of him and my sister and went over to Wal Mart to have copies made. The nasty lady which is the mgr of the lab dept. gave me grief about on of my prints cause I bought all the negetives and proofs from our wedding which was 9 years ago. After my prints were done she actually went through all of them and took the one that was a print from a professional photography. I was so mad and she was rude to me from the first question I had asked. Any way I did put a complaint in to the mgr. of the store. I had another wedding photo done there of my daughter and it also was stamped from the perfessional and she just asked me if I had bought the negs and proofs and I said yes. and she let me copy the one of my daughter that I wanted. This lady nasty lady didn't even ask me that. She said it was a federal offence to do this now somehow I don't think the FBI is watching Wal Mart for people printing pics . How RUDE.

I find this hard to believe, Here in florida they ask if we want the prints. If they look bad, we just don't buy them. Very strange

The same with me. For the first time I read such things. At first (in all places of photo development I know) I look at my picture and choose what to develop and what not.

Hmm--if this occured at a US Wal-Mart, I would certainly recommend that your friend consult an attorney. I am not a lawyer, not yet anyways, but the facts seem to be a clear and obvious instance of false imprisonment. This could cost Wal-Mart a pretty penny.

I need a full outside picture of Wal-Mart, please. It's for my report.
